About Operation K.A.R.E.

Operation KARE

In 2016, the Zeta Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at High Point University began ‘Operation KARE’ (Knowledge, Awareness, Results, Empowerment) - a student-led initiative aimed at raising money to provide Track Chairs for wounded veterans. We were motivated by the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who serve in uniform. Realizing that they were not much older than we were at the time, we wanted to do something tangible and meaningful for them. We have worked to grow this initiative to other Kappa Alpha Order chapters on college campuses from coast to coast, and since 2016 have raised AND donated over $680,000 to the Independence Fund to provide Track Chairs and other wellness programs for veterans around the country. To achieve this, we have built a nationwide coalition of over 1,000+ donors — individuals, businesses, and other organizations — from around the country. We hope you will join with our fraternity's expanding initiative to support the Independence Fund and our very deserving veterans.

About The Independence Fund:

Founded in 2007, The Independence Fund (501c3) is committed to empowering our nation’s catastrophically wounded, injured or ill veterans to overcome physical, mental and emotional wounds incurred in the line of duty. The Independence Fund is dedicated to improving the lives of Veterans and their families by providing tangible impact. Through the Fund’s Mobility, Caregiver, Adaptive Sports, Advocacy, Suicide Prevention, Family and Crisis Relief programs, The Independence Fund strives to bridge the gap of unmet needs for veterans and their caregivers. The Independence Fund believes in fairness and equality for all veterans and families irrespective of race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation, and will continue to uphold these American values.

Kappa Alpha Order chapters at The University of Alabama and Auburn University have worked tirelessly over the past year to raise and donate over $40,000 to The Independence Fund through the Operation K.A.R.E. initiative. Their donations will provide two wounded Veterans with all-terrain Track Chairs and better quality of life. These Track Chairs will be presented to Cpl. Stephen Wilson and Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers during the November 27th rivalry football game between the two schools. A portion of all GR8-1 shirts purchased above will be directly donated to The Independence Fund through the Operation K.A.R.E. initiative and be used to help wounded Veterans, around the nation, in need. Support your team and our Veterans in need!
